Progress

Progress for this week on Daemon: 5,191

Yep, only about half of my usual output. Long weekend and a resurgence of depression made things difficult this week. I took Friday off as well, since my thinking was so scattered.

I did make a start on a couple of other small projects, which is something at least – just over 1,000 words on them.

If wishes were fishes we'd all cast nets

Things have been difficult for me of late. Depression and the usual crapness that goes along with chronic illness have made working difficult.

I’m feeling like I need a shake-up to my routine. I’m in a rut and it’s showing. I just wish I could work the way I used to – eight to ten hours straight, being able to concentrate through most of that. These days I’m lucky if I can concentrate for an hour before my thinking starts to fall apart.

Still, I’m toying with the idea of changing things around. At the moment, I sleep as late as I need to and then my mornings are spent on chores and errands. It’s only after lunch that I settle down to write, getting anywhere from 1-3 hours work done. I’m lucky in that I write fast, so some days I can get 2k words in an hour. After that, I’m free to spend the rest of the afternoon just pottering about.

I’d love to be able to get up early, get some exercise done and then settle down to write. Take a break for lunch and errands and then have another writing session. Maybe I’ll try working towards this. With the weather (hopefully) cooling down over the next few months, exercise in the morning is going to look more tempting.
