Quiet and busy

I’ve been quiet over here.

For once, this is a good thing.  It means that I’ve been working at a steady pace, and when I’m not working, I’m actually enjoying life.  Watching a lot of movies, going out with friends.  Being normal.

We just purchased a new (and very large) television and are greedily enjoying all of our favourite movies and television shows.  I haven’t been a huge television watcher, but the husband has been addicting me to Boston Legal of late.  I’ve been watching Heroes as well, though I remain not as in awe as others I know.

It’s interesting, the opinion that many have about television.  They call it the idiot box and prefer to read books.  Now, I should think it’s pretty evident that I have nothing against books.  I will also readily admit that there is a hell of a lot of crap on television.

But as a writer, I learn from television and movies as much from books.  I analyse characters, their motives, the pacing of a story.  I take note of what has me watching the television wide-eyed, what has be clutching at the seat.  And I learn.

And as a plus, it’s damn good time out.  Even when I’m just relaxing and not actively analysing, I know that the men in the basement are.
