Somewhere over the rainbow

Grandma, originally uploaded by azhure.

My grandmother was laid to rest this morning. This photo was used in the funeral - I’d never seen it before, as for some reason my grandmother had hidden it away.

I’m glad she’s at peace now. She had a lot of pain for over nine years, and she deserves some peace. Those years were painful for everyone, and it was nice to remember her as she was before them.

She was described in the service as a fiery Scotswoman. It’s the perfect description for who she was - she used to have so much life in her. I wonder what kind of woman she would be if she was born now, rather than when she was - she was too much for the life she had, when it came down to it. The strictures of being a married woman who could only contribute through her husband and children were too much for her. I think she always wanted to be more. Here’s hoping she can come back for another round and be everything that she wanted to be.

I have only one regret. She used to be a professional singer, and I never got to hear her sing. Life took away her voice. I hope she’s singing again now.

Moving and stuff

I shan’t be online much for the rest of the week. There is much packing to be done. Much sorting as well, but that’s kind of going by the wayside in favour of just getting things into boxes.

Unpacking is gonna be *fun*.

Anyway, expect radio silence from me for a while. I’ll be reading Lj sporadically and skimming emails, but that’s about it. We’ll be moving this weekend, and then it’s anyone’s guess as to when we’ll be online again - depends on when our ISP reconnects us.

And just for the record, I have a lot of books. I don’t want to move them again after this. I’ve run out of book boxes and I still have books unpacked.
