As some of you may be aware, next Friday the 13th has been
designated the ‘Horror Day of Action’.Horror Day is a call to arms for all fans of dark fiction to buy a
horror book, give away a horror book, buy or rent a horror movie, or
read ghost stories to the kids. In short, it is a day to raise
awareness of the genre.

The Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) has sent a media
release to many Australian newspapers, magazines, radio stations,
and TV stations, to encourage awareness of horror literature. AHWA
committee members and some prominent Australian horror authors will
also be participating in media interviews to further promote Horror
Day.

So please support Australian dark fiction by spreading the word -
and remember to pick up a book or DVD next Friday.

If you’re in Perth, Brimstone Press is sponsoring a Horror Day
reading at Fantastic Planet bookstore (Shafto Lane, Perth) at 6pm,
Friday the 13th. The reading will feature many prominent WA dark
fiction writers, including Stephen Dedman, Lee Battersby, Lyn
Battersby, Shane Jiraiya Cummings, and Carol Ryles. The event will
be MCed by Shadowed Realms and Brimstone Press editor Angela Challis.

West Aussies – please support the dark side of speculative fiction
by coming along to Fantastic Planet on Friday, listening to some
scary stories, and perhaps buying an Australian horror book or two.
Free alcohol will be in plentiful supply.

Further info on Horror Day is available at
www.myspace.com/horrorday. For more info on the AHWA, go to

New words: 1,142 words on the second draft of Three times Three, now renamed Narthex.
Total words: 69,041 still on Thought and Memory. 4,800 word total on the final draft of Narthex.
Reason for stopping: Finished working on draft.

Exercise : Nothing, since weather didn’t permit.
Other work: Sent off every publishable story still languishing on my HD to a new market.
Reading: Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Avatar.

One of my favourite things to do is to write shorts that are enmeshed with my novels. For example, the story I had published in Shadowed Realms, Through Closed Eyes, is a prequel to Shaede. A forthcoming story, Shadow, is also a prequel to Shaede.

Narthex is a prequel to Thought and Memory.

I have a feeling that writing this is going to make Thought and Memory a different book. I’m already mentally constructing an outline of the next draft of the novel, though I haven’t finished this draft yet. It’s very difficult not to go back and start from the beginning now, but I’m being a good little writer.
