Not a good writing day.  Just couldn’t find that hole in the page, for whatever reason.  Days like today are frustrating, because I try to push through it to get something written, and it all just feels like crap.  I suspect that everything I wrote today will end up getting rewritten tomorrow.

Real life:

Woke up early for no reason at all.  Did grocery shopping.  Got a termite inspection done on the house.

I’m frustrated today at the lack of writing progress, especially since things have been going fairly well lately on that front.  But I guess not every day can be a good one in the word mines.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better and more useful.

Not a great day today.  I woke up exhausted, and have been walking around in a fog all day.  I’m glad I got the words that I did, but I would have liked to have gotten at least another 1k.  I know from experience that it’s useless pushing on when my brain feels like this, though.

Real life:

Not much, thanks to this exhaustion.  I probably would feel better if I went for a walk, but I just feel too damn lethargic.  Time for some mindless entertainment, I think.

Yes, still no actual forward motion.  I had a major brainstorming session last night and came up with a few ways that I wanted to change the first few chapters, so I’m hacking and rewriting.  They’re changes that make the opening much stronger, though, so I’m happy to spend the time getting them right.

This also fixes the problem I’ve been having the last few writing days with one scene.  I know now why it wasn’t working and I know how to fix it.

Real life:

Cleaned the house, did two loads of laundry.

I really want to keep on writing, but my brain is getting that fuzzy feeling that tells me that I need to stop and do something else.  Okay, brain, I have plenty of other stuff to do.  You get off until tomorrow.

Writing:

Another good day.  To be fair, I did do a good deal of rewriting today, since I was really unhappy with the chapter I drafted on Friday.  It was only technically rewriting, though, since I basically completely reworked the chapter.

And I have successfully written myself into a corner again, since something happened that I didn’t think was going to happen until later on in the book.  This is why I can never be a heavy relier on an outline, people.  My brain just doesn’t work that way.

I have been seriously pounced by one of my characters from Never, so I’ve begun doing some outlining of that as well.  Mostly character background and the like.  I cannot wait to work on this, at least in part because I’m going to set half of the book in Perth.  I tend to write about nebulous any-cities most of the time, so it’s going to be a bit strange to have a real life setting.  But that’s where he lives :)  I may even get a Little Creatures reference or two in ;)

Real life:

Cleaned the house, did a couple of loads of laundry.  Listened to a man banging around on the roof (the long process of fixing our fubared roof is still ongoing, but will be finished with only one more major step, which is getting the whole thing resurfaced and resealed.).

I also started watching Six Feet Under again as an accompaniment to my lunch break.  Awesome writing inspiration, since everything is foreshadowed so well (even in the pilot!).  Not to mention that the whole show is just completely awesome.  I am so happy that I own the DVDs.

Now I need to fix up a review a little and post it to Horrorscope, and then get some more review reading done before it’s time to deal with laundry again.  The glamour!

Writing:

Another good writing day.  I drafted a whole chapter really quickly (to the point where I’m looking at the clock and keep on thinking that it’s wrong).

I’m happy with this chapter, apart from the fact that characters decided to take things in a different direction again.  One that makes some of the stuff that needs to happen really difficult now.  It’s going to take a bit of wrangling to get things back on some kind of track.  I’m happy with it, though, just a bit flummoxed as to how I’m going to fix this.  Oh well, it’s better than being bored with the book!

I also managed to get another review written and uploaded.  I’m determined to try to keep on top of other writing work right now.  It’s too easy to let everything pile up.

Real life:

Went for a walk this morning, which was really difficult.  I’m out of condition from a week with the flu and still not breathing perfectly.  Argh.  I’m feeling better, though, just dealing with the tail end of stuff.  And coughing a lot.  Also did grocery shopping and looked through some recipes.  Feeling vaguely inspired to stop making the same six dishes over and over.  Which probably won’t last long ;)
