Today has been a surprisingly productive day. I’m feeling a bit off, as I was yesterday - random dizziness and weirdness. I think it’s just hormones or the weather or something, though. Either way, the human suit is acting up a bit, and hence the surprise in the productivity.

Not only have I baked muffins and made ice cream for the husband, I also managed a decent word count. And made decent progress on a sub plot. I’m getting near to the end of stuff that I’ve plotted out in detail, and will be flying into the void of the unknown. Which is fun, especially since I have some exciting stuff to write.

I’ve had a couple of people ask me lately about my word counts, and what I aim to make each day, and figured it was probably easier to answer that here, rather than individual emails.

On the worst day, I aim for a thousand words. On a good day, my minimum is two thousand - anything more than that is gravy. I aim to have every one of those words be good, rather than trotting out words for the sake of the count. Of course, I am in a state where I’m working off a previous draft, so that’s easier. I’m moving into first draft essentially for this project soon, so it’ll be harder.

These days, it’s taking me around 2-3 hours of solid work to get two thousand words on average. Some days I’m done in an hour, and others it takes far, far longer. I’m working five days a week, and taking weekends off, though I’m toying with the idea of working on weekends as well.

And on top of this is review work, which is getting somewhat neglected at the moment (a situation which I must rectify, and soon) and the equally important (to writing) feeding of the men in the basement. For me, that’s taking in Story - primarily through reading, but also through movies. I tend to analyse writing and character by default whenever I’m watching something, so it’s all learning for me.
