Thanks a lot, Microsoft
Mar. 21st, 2008 11:16 amScene: writer sitting down to get a bit of writing done before going off to a family lunch.
Laptop freezes while waking up from hibernation. Oh, says the writer, I can fix that with a restart. It is no problem, for I saved everything yesterday.
Enter the demon of the computer. For lo, it says, you may have your novel. All but the last chapter, which I shall mysteriously replace with a very old version. And you shall not have any backup copies with which to restore it. Even more annoyingly, I shall let you have all the other files in your save from yesterday!
Sigh. Yeah, so I have my outline and notes, but somewhere in the process my actual chapter got eaten. I suppose I should be grateful for the outline, so at least I know what happened in the chapter. But still - argh!
