Today’s progress:
Project: White Raven draft two

New words: 2,440

Total words: 84,684

Goal: 100k

Writing:

Slightly odd writing day.  I managed to get the scenes I wanted written, but it was very slow going.  I suspect that they’ll need some more work next week, but they’re mostly there.  Brain just feels a bit foggy, probably because I’ve been overdoing stuff lately.

Real life:

Lots and lots of laundry.  This is called making the most of the fact that it feels like spring today.
Going to work on a review and maybe go for a short walk as well.  Then maybe tackle some slush.  Walk first is probably a good idea, really, and will hopefully clear my head a little.

Beauty:

Spending time with awesome family members last night.

Kristine Kathryn Rusch on failure.

You should be reading the entirety of the Freelancer’s Survival Guide if you’re not already.

“…failures are opportunities.

Opportunities to start over. Opportunities to make changes. Opportunities to learn.”

On Doing Nothing

“How are we going to feel that tap on the shoulder…that leads us to new stories, new subject matter, if we’re scrambling the hamster wheel of busy-ness?”

17 reasons manuscripts are rejected.

Some of these are major dealbreakers for me as a reader.  And I’ve come across far too many of them in published books – I get especially annoyed at sliding points of view.  I can only imagine what agents and publishers get in their slush some days.

5 lessons I’ve learned about writing dialogue in fiction.
