Now that the manuscript of Shaede has been well and truly finished, it’s time to move onto the next novel. Thought and Memory (which was Memory and Thought). The change in title does make a difference, though it may not seem so.

A week ago, my thoughts were full of the world of Shaede. I had been intending on working on a few interlinking short stories set in the same universe, but my brain doesn’t seem to want to embrace the short form at the moment. Okay, then, brain, novels it is.

This morning, lying in bed in that delicious haze between sleep and waking, the background plot of Thought and Memory came clearly into focus. The men in the basement have been hard at work, it seems. I like it – it makes sense to me, moreso than the patchwork plot I’d been working on previously.

I have several chapters of a draft completed on Thought and Memory, from before I was cleaning up Shaede for submission. I think I’m going to start afresh, using the ideas in those chapters to build on. Tomorrow, I shall be chained to the laptop again.

In news of Shaede, I’ve sent off three queries to agents so far. I’ll keep on querying, of course. I have one more agent on my list so far, and need to spend some more time gathering potentials. I’m ready for rejection, and I am armed with more envelopes than anyone could possibly need to query as many agents as it takes.
