I am beginning to feel normal again. Well, normalish, anyway. Still shaky and lacking in endurance, but I no longer feel like I’m going to keel over just from walking across a room.
We’ll just ignore the arthritis flare that’s hit me. That, at least, I can deal with. Though it’s hard to do some things, since I’ve fairly abruptly lost the full range of motion in my shoulders. Stupid human suit. It’s times like these that I realise why I developed the weird typing style I have.
I learned touch typing in high school – in a typing class! On actual typewriters! Which is why I’m stuck in the school of two spaces after a period, since we learned on manual typewriters. I was actually good at touch typing, but over time, I stopped typing in any traditional manner. Now, I’m actually a two-fingered typist: the index finger on my right hand and the middle finger on my left. I type by moving my whole arms, and keeping my wrists, elbows and finger joints in the same position. And I am fast, and fairly accurate. Hell, I’ve written an honours and PhD thesis, as well as several novels, using this technique.
The only problem is that I think, with the arthritis now hitting my shoulders, that it’s making those joints worse. Bah. There’s no winning with the human suit.
Thank the gods that I don’t need to move much to read, is all I’ll say
